Chillingham Castle is hidden away in the countryside near Chatton and is said to be one of the most haunted castles in Britain.

Dating back to the 12th century it has been besieged on a number of occasions.

It's torture chamber and dungeon are grim reminders of the severe penalties imposed on law breakers and enemies in times past.

The castle fell into a state of dereliction but has undergone restoration that is still ongoing.

Chillingham Castle is one of the best of Northumberlands' castles to visit.
