St. Aidan's Church, Thockrington, Northumberland.

St. Aidan's was first built in AD 1100 by the Umfraville family - a name that occurs often in Northumberland history.

It remained their's until 1226 when it was forfeited to the Archbishop of York as compensation for damage to the Archbishop's lands and disturbance to the peace of the prior of Hexham by Richard De Umfraville. This act is unique in the church history of Northumberland.

The church is situated on a hilltop in a remote location and has magnificent views. Of special interest is the vaulted chancel roof.
