Churches in Morpeth, Northumberland.There are a number of churches in Morpeth - this page contains those we have photographed to date. St. Mary the Virgin Church, Morpeth. St. Mary the Virgin Church dates back to the 13th and 14th century and is one of the finest and largest 14th century churches in Northumberland. It is located on the south side of the town on the side of the old A1 road. The churchyard contains the grave of Emily Wilding Davison (born in 1872) the suffragette who threw herself in front of the King's horse on Derby Day in 1913. This church sits on the side of the River Wansbeck at the north end of Telford Bridge. St. Georges Church, Bridge Street, Morpeth. St. James the Great Church, Copper Chare, Morpeth Town Centre.
St. James the Great Church was built in the Norman style using local stone and was consecrated in 1846. It is in the Town Centre and has entrances from three sides, the most impressive being the tree lined path from Newgate Street with it's arched entrance.
