St. Giles Church, Birtley, Northumberland.St. Giles was consecrated in 1090, but there was probably a church here in the seventh century. The present church was rebuilt in the 18th century and renovated in the 19th century. There is a small almost unique memorial stone set in the chancel wall of the present church, which also retains a Norman arch. Behind the church is a three sided gravestone and some medieval gravestones stand in the porch. © Copyright - All photos are subject to copyright and may not be reproduced in any format or displayed on any website without prior written permission.
